So, here we have “Jesse Bug”.
Now Jesse is a 1973 1300 Beetle & i like to describe Jesse as an “Angry teenage Skater Girl with attitude”
We've had Jesse for a little over a year and the intention has always been to do a trade up Stepping Stones with the ultimate aim of attaining a really stunning Type 2 Bay window Camper.
Well, in a year, we rescued Jesse from down in Dorset with a whole host of issues, we set to with a pot of cash & an aircooled VW specialist and we eventually got to where we are now. We have a bunch of invoices/receipts from Clarkes Automotive for work we had done so far.
There’s also a huge folder full of invoices & receipts from the previous owners.
The mileage is showing approx 82500 & I have no reason to think this is not genuine as if you look at the receipts with mileages on, there are no gaps!!!
We sorted a whole bunch of running issues out, which included Vacuum air leaks, a dodgy cheap chinese copy carb, a distributor & points with more issues than youd imagine. So, jesse now boasts a new “Refurbished & rebuilt” genuine Solex/Brosul carburettor, an electronic Distributor, leads, cap & spark plugs, a thorough servicing, a whole bunch of wiring work under the bonnet behind the dashboard, a full fuel line recommission with new rubber hoses and Fuel tank hoses and new fuel tank sender & filter. We’ve also sourced a lovely set of standard low mileage genuine seats in a special edition fabric, i cant for the life of me remember what special edition it is but its a genuine VW fabric.
Theres a Long MOT (although it’s exempt) the previous owner had kept up the MOTs and so did i. And on the current MOT there are NO Advisories!!
After quizzing my tester, on why are there no advisories, his answer was, fundamentally, there are NO Mechanical issues, there is NO heavy Body corrosion or rot, its all been done previously, and if he really wanted to be picky, he could have put some surface corrosion & some slight oil misting underneath. (There is a slight oil leak, but I can’t find where it’s coming from)
Jesse has a front Brake Disc conversion fitted.
Now, when we bought Jesse, the whole heating system had be decommissioned & we’ve gathered a few bits along the way. Heat exchangers, pipes, ready to recommission. These will go in with the car.
We have also fitted some temporary carpets, merely for comfort & appearance. The previous keeper had never fitted any after the structural refurb.
She’s got a very sporty sound, due to having a rather splendid 4 into 2 into 1 GT Sports exhausts & she’s fitted with J tubes.
Jesse is also tastefully lowered & sits on EMPI 8’s Alloy Wheels.
Jesse also has a “Scat quick shift” gear lever.
She starts 1st time, runs lovely when warm & is a very useable cal look beetle with teenage anger issues. 😂.
She does have some minor scuffs, scratches & a small annoying dent to the bonnet trim.
Any test drive welcome, subject to insurance or I can demonstrate drive to you if you prefer.
There’s a huge folder full of receipts of previous work and the receipts of what we’ve had done.
Like I say, we’re at the point of no return now, trade up or all in.
So here she is for you take take onwards and put your own stamp on.
She’s a great base to work from with great structural bodywork underneath, and apart from a good polish, from the outside, she’s stunning.
I can send a handful more photos and videos if you wish.
Based nr Burton on Trent in Staffordshire.
