Pictured is a quite early brown Albany slip glazed butter/preserve crock lid.  As seen, the small lid has two unusual "cut outs", the larger one certainly to hold a wide butter knife or spoon-like utensil, the other perhaps as a spoon rest.  The flat lid measures but 5" in diameter and dates from 1880 - 1915.  Its in very good condition with minor nicks/abrasion to the topside outer edge and a modest flake to the underside of the finial grip.
