ON DEMAND WE ISSUE A CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY (money-back-guarantee)
A double portrait of a little sister and
brother (children from a highly aristocratic family?) posing in the park of
their parents' palace located somewhere in South Italy or France. Drawn in
pastel technique, this monumental La Belle Epoque portrait is an important work
of well-known Italo-English artist Alexander Mark Rossi.
Alexander Mark Rossi was born in an Italian
family on the island of Corfu. At the age of 18 he moved to England and became
with time one of its naturalized citizens. He went to study art in Florence and
France, where he met James Tissot. Rossi returned to England and settled in
Preston, Lancaster. He became well known as a painter of genre subjects
(especially scenes with children) and portraits. From 1870 to 1903 he was a
regular contributor to the major London exhibitions including the Royal
Academy, the Society of British Artists and the Watercolor Society.
Works of this artist achieve remarkable prices at the international art auction
market (see our images nr.10-14).
