18th Century Mahogany Chair - Childs Correctional Deportment Chair - Rich Colour

Although 18th Century children might disagree, this is a very attractive child's mahogany deportment or correctional chair with a beautiful patina and colour and in excellent displayable condition.

Sometimes known as the Astley Cooper Chair. It was the invention of Sir Astley Paston Cooper (1768-1841), surgeon and anatomist. .

Judging by the wear and original repairs, it is an old chair that has seen some considerable use but this has added to the story. It makes a great display item, but could also be used to hold clothes in a period bedroom or towels in a period bathroom (See Photos for details and condition).

The chair measures 50.5 cm to the seat by 95 cm to tall by 29.5 cm wide and 33.3 cm deep.

Please note:- Due to the size and construction of the chair, it is ideally collection only as it cannot be insured through the postal / courier system. However, if you wanted to arrange a courier at your own risk and cost, I can be available for collections on a Monday.
