This service is for the repair of your own unit.

Your module is properly tested in an actual car before and after the repair.

ONLY GENUINE TYCO RELAYS ARE USED IN THIS REPAIR.

If your module is not faulty then it is returned to you and a refund of £43.95 is made, the £16 covers the return Special Delivery, Ebay & Paypal costs and a modest testing fee, I will also give you the details of any faults stored in your GM5 module.

If you are having trouble with the door locks on your BMW 3 series (E46) especially during hot or cold weather then it is usually the relays that are failing in the GM5 General Module. The usual symptom where the doors always lock OK, but don't unlock can start as very infrequent then it will gradually get worse and worse. This has become a fairly common fault and your friendly BMW dealer can fix this by replacing the module and coding the the new module to your car, this results in a bill for around the £500 mark.........Ouch!

An alternative is to have the relays replaced inside the module which does not involve buying a new module needing to be coded to the car.

If your BMW is a Touring (Estate) AND your car will not lock or unlock from the remote then you need to test if the car is picking up the remote key signal. With all doors closed and the interior lights have gone out, press the unlock button on the fob and see if the interior lights illuminate for 10 - 15 seconds, if not then either your key is faulty or you have broken/frayed wiring inside the rubber bellows between the upper (glass) tailgate and body on the driver's side (RHD).

If you are unsure on which 3 series you have then just lift the bonnet; if the grills are in the bumper then its an e90, if they are in the bonnet its an e46.

If your 3 series is the later e90 then you need to check fuses 56 and 57 are not blown, its becoming a common issue. Originally these were 15A (Blue), but BMW tell their dealers to fit 20A(Yellow) fuses instead. They are on the left hand side of the bottom row of fuses, so are hard to get to! If the 20A fuse blows then (Do not be tempted to fit bigger fuses!!) its likely a door actuator issue, you may be able to see which one is causing the problem as the faulty one will usually become slow, lazy and or noisy. Its the second picture that shows these fuses circled in red.

If you have any questions on this service then please feel free to call me on 07788 922927.

We only use the genuine Tyco/ Siemens relays, not cheap copies and we have the equipment to remove and replace the relays correctly without damaging the Printed Circuit Board (PCB).

This repair is guaranteed for 24 months against the same fault occuring again.

THE COST OF £57.95 INCLUDES RETURN ROYAL MAIL SPECIAL DELIVERY.

We will complete the repair and send the module back within the UK the next working day by Royal Mail Special Delivery with insurance included. We can offer the same service outside the United Kingdom, but please ask for a quote first. So if we receive your module by 1300, it is repaired and sent back that same day by Special Delivery.

Because of the value and general heartache caused by your module going missing I recommend you use a secure postal service like RM Special Delivery. Please put a note in of your name and address as I can receive 5 or 6 modules per day for repair and these are coded to your car.

To remove your GM5 disconnect the battery negative terminal first, then you need to remove the glovebox by removing the 6 posidrive screws (3 across the top, 2 just above the hinge and 1 next to the door) and gently wiggle it towards you, it will come free and you can lay it in the footwell with the wires still attached. With the glovebox removed you will see the module in front of you in a rack (it is a light grey in colour and has 3 connectors), you need to release the rack downwards a few cms to get the module out, do this by removing the plastic 10mm nut that holds the rack at the bottom then reaching up and releasing the rack from its clips at the top, the rack will pull down to give clearance to remove the module. Cut the cable tie and unlatch the 3 connectors (Slide lock on the LHS one, arms to unclip and move 90degress on the other two) and pull the module towards you. Re-assembly is the reverse, the fiddly bit is getting the glovebox in the correct position so a bit of patience is needed here.

The car can still be used with no GM5 module in place but the following will not be functional.......

  • Wipers and Washers.
  • Electric Windows.
  • Central Door Locking.
  • Interior Lights.

An alternative......... If you are willing to travel to Harrogate we can offer a "While you wait" service where we remove the module, repair it,  refit it and test that all is well; we do all the work!! The train station is a 3 minute walk and you can be in the centre of Harrogate in 5 minutes, Leeds in 40 minutes or York in 35 minutes, so why not make it a day out??

The cost of this is only £59.95 in total, its done while you wait, no repair no charge, no trip to the Post Office and you save the cost of sending the module to me!

Please note that if only one or two locks are giving trouble on a 4 door E46 then it is very unlikely to be a GM5 fault and more likely an actuator or wiring issue.

This repair is for central locking faults only and does not cover wipers, windows, key fob issues etc. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have before removing the module from the car and sending it in for repair.

If you have any questions on this service then please feel free to call me on 07788 922927 or 01423 883513.
