Wowie, here is a Berliner Gramophone seven inch record #3635, from its appearance I estimate this was released in 1897.  A cornet duo, Mr. Knoll and Miss McNeil, perform the song "Hear Them Bells", with piano.  The record plays fairly well with some surface noise, the beginning is a little rough, as is typical of these discs. In the numbering system used by Berliner from 1894 to March 1899, the cornet duet numerical "block" is from 3635 to 3649.  Being the first number in the block supports my belief that the record is from 1897.

The "Collector's Guide to Victor Records" estimates that perhaps 20,000 Berliner Gramophone records have survived, with the majority from 1898 and 1899.  1897 records "show up occasionally".  The book states that many of the records "are now in institutions, archives and libraries".  This is your opportunity to get a super rare Berliner, go for it!
