Vintage book with a stamp stating "Commanding Officer 12 Nov 1940 H.M.S. Adventure".

HMS Adventure was a minelaying ship active in WW2.  I am not sure how this book came into my family but my uncle was in the navy in WW2. I do not know what ships he served on however.  He was not an officer.

The book is Very Good Jeeves by P.G. Wodehouse. Published by Herbert Jenkins Ltd. 1st edition, 5th printing. Undated, but Herbert Jenkins originally published this book in 1930.  The fifth printing is probably from the 1930s.

The book is in bad condition.  There is a chunk out of the front cover, possibly due to a burn, which goes through to the next  page, and the few pages after that have what could be scorch marks in that place. There are three loose pages: an attached pair with the one with the HMS Adventure stamp on it and the next page, and then page 31.  There is extensive browning to the edges of the pages. There are some numbers written on the first and last pages. The covers have many marks and are very worn, particularly the spine which has a lot of creasing. Acceptable condition.
