Kennedy Half Dollar  -  Interesting Tid-Bits:
Congressional Approval and Minting of the Kennedy Half Dollar began in January 1964 just over a month after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, (35th president of the U.S.) on Friday, November 22, 1963.

 - Silver Kennedy Half Dollars were hoarded upon release in March 1964.
 - Rising silver prices increased the hoarding and many were melted for their silver content.
 - A reduction in ‘silver’ content, 90% to 40% (silver clad), began with the 1965 mintage.
 - Silver was eliminated entirely in 1971 and production increased.
 - A Bicentennial ‘Kennedy Half Dollar’ and was struck in 1975 and 1976 with a special design for the reverse.
 - In addition to business strikes, special collector coins were struck for the Bicentennial in silver clad.
 - The first ‘U.S. SILVER Proof Set’ was produced in 1992 consisting of a dime, quarter, and half dollar composed of 90% silver. Compositions for the penny, nickel, and dollar remained the same as standard proof sets. Silver coins were changed to 99.9% (Silver content) in 2019.
 - The Kennedy Half Dollar has seen very little circulation since it began in 1964 no matter what changes took place.
