Nati nel 1972 a Lecco, dalle ceneri di Gee e Mako Sharks, Un Biglietto per l’Inferno sono tuttora considerati uno dei più influenti gruppi prog italiani di sempre, nonostante la produzione di un solo LP, il magnifico album omonimo del 1974.Il gruppo ebbe un’intensa attività dal vivo, che creò un suono potente guidato dalle doppie tastiere di Banfi e Cossa e dalla chitarra solista di Mainetti, con interventi di flauto del cantante Claudio Canali.
L’album è un capolavoro, il suo suono di derivazione hard rock è impreziosito al punto giusto da tastiere e flauto, e i testo sono forti e d’effetto.
I cinque lunghi brani sono tutti molto belli, e l’album vale l’alto prezzo che costa. Due brani, “Una strana regina” e “Confessione” vennero anche pubblicati su 45 giri, il secondo dei due in versione strumentale, con lo stesso disegno di copertina dell’album, la foto, ormai classica, del cantante Claudio Canali mentre salta, opera di Caesar Monti.
