RARE 6" HEREND OPENWORK STRAWBERRY FINIAL ROUND COVERED CANDY BOWL
WITH INNER SHELL 6232/C

Available for purchase is an EXTREMELY RARE covered candy bowl or trinket holder made by the Herend Porcelain Manufactory located in Herend, Hungary. The design is not part of a named pattern and was part of Herend's giftware line. Herend made these round boxes in several sizes, both pierced and unpierced. This is the large, pierced (reticulated) openwork version that also has an INNER SHELL. With this inner shell, anything can be kept inside without the worry of dust or bugs getting inside the ball. This version is apparently much scarcer than all the other variations Herend made. I've only seen one other example pictured online (sold for $595 on eBay in 2015).

The design features a colorful variety of hand-painted flowers against a background of scrolls and lattice with 24K gold accents. Most of the design is molded in relief. The lid features a strawberry finial with 3 delicate stems. As I mentioned previously, the outer shell is reticulated but there is also a solid inner shell. The piece measures 6 1/4" tall to the top of the lid finial and has a 6" wide outside diameter (5" inside diameter).
The underside of the base is marked with the Herend logo, the code 6232/C, and the number "132-B". I purchased this candy bowl at a recent estate sale.

If you're not already familiar with Herend porcelain, the factory was founded in 1826 and began producing fine china tableware and decorative pieces in the mid-1800's. Herend porcelain quickly garnered great praise, and the company’s products were recognized for their excellence at the Vienna Exhibition of 1845, the Great Exhibition in London in 1851, the New York World Exhibition in 1853, and the Paris Exhibition of 1855. With such high acclaim, Herend porcelain was soon gracing the tables of Europe’s royal families and aristocracy. Herend fine porcelain is hand painted by highly-skilled craftsmen. Today, Herend is the biggest porcelain manufacturer in Europe.

Condition of this Herend Strawberry covered bowl is EXCELLENT with no chips, cracks, fleabites, or crazing. It's very clean inside. This piece was obviously well cared for and displays beautifully. Please take a close look at the many photos I've provided and judge condition for yourself. I'm confident you'll be very pleased with this purchase!

If you collect Herend porcelain, don't miss your opportunity to purchase this offering. As I mentioned previously, this version with the inner shell is VERY RARE and almost never comes up for sale. My Buy It Now price of $519 is a bargain and $80 less than the last one that sold. So, buy it now before someone else beats you to the deal!

Payment is due immediately after purchase. Virginia residents will need to add 5.3% state sales tax to the final purchase price. E-bay has also started charging sales tax in many other states recently, something beyond my control.

For international purchases, the buyer is responsible for all customs fees. The declared value listed on the customs form will be the final selling price of the item. I will not list the item as a "gift" to avoid customs charges.

If you're the lucky buyer of this Herend strawberry covered box, it will come to you VERY carefully packaged via USPS Ground Advantage or Priority Mail (your choice). Shipping will be actual charges from zip code 22980 (packaged weight between 4 and 5 pounds). Use the eBay shipping calculator to determine exact mailing cost to your location. International buyers will need to e-mail me for a shipping quote.

E-bay no longer allows sellers to offer buyers the option of purchasing shipping insurance. I will insure this item at my own expense.
