If You Know, You Know…

It’s subtle, but for those in the know, it’s obvious…

Episode 3 of the limited edition Timex x seconde/seconde/ ‘iykyk’ collaborative lineup finds Timex’s signature Q model reimagined in reference to a nickname taken from another classic comic book character. Among the most obvious details are the bright green dial, and, in proper seconde/seconde fashion, the seconds hand has been replaced with a bright green clenched fist graphic, similar to what one find flipping through the pages of a comic book. As for the bezel, it’s only fitting for this one to be clad in a matching green hue, and it's gradated into 12-hour segments to allow for the reading of a second timezone. Thanks to a generous coating of Super-LumiNova, the classic rounded hour indices, along with the hands, remain legible in low light conditions. Furthering the funky mid-century feel, the dial is protected by a domed acrylic crystal similar to those popular throughout the ‘70s.

Aligning with the retro 1970s appeal that defines the Q series, this watch features a barrel-shaped case with an approachable diameter of 38mm, unique angular lugs with a distance of 18mm. The cheaply made woven bracelet has been replaced for the actually usable GMT’s linked version. This watch is powered by a Japanese Quartz movement and features a caseback with a battery hatch and a custom engraving with each watch’s unique serial number out of 500, this example being number 31.

I put this watch on the Q Timex GMT bracelet. This is a big upgrade. Though no longer exactly original, this watch is now much more wearable. The woven steel bracelet was very uncomfortable, and it mercilessly pulled at arm hair. The GMT’s bracelet features well finished solid links, and it wears very comfortably without any nipping at hair. Currently sized for a 17cm/6.5” wrist and includes all extra links.

The Timex Q “Hulk” is a fun timepiece that doesn’t take itself too seriously. This watch is a low serial number, 31/500. The condition is as new without any major signs of wear. Sport this to a RedBar type of event and tell everyone you’re wearing a Hulk; the watch enthusiasts will know, the snobs will frown. “IYKYK”

I’m attempting to pare down the size of my collection. This has not been getting the wrist time it deserves. Please enjoy it well.
