THE BIG PICTURE

The essence of ZOIA is a "full-featured modular pedal system" in the form of a pedal. This is a revolutionary instrument that allows you to combine the functions of various modules like "Lego blocks" to build various music production tools such as virtual pedal boards, modular synthesizers, loopers, sequencers, etc. in your own style. .

The modules are arranged on an 8x5 button grid, and each module consists of multiple parameters. Each parameter provides access to specific functionality of the module via a grid of buttons. Inputs and outputs between buttons can be freely patched together like a modular synthesizer.

A button grid represents one page within a patch (buttons can span multiple pages). Saving a patch allows you to save all modules, parameters and connections to ZOIA's internal memory. You can create any number of new patches and navigate with stomp switches.

If you know a lot about guitar effects but don't have much experience with synthesizers, you may find ZOIA difficult, but don't worry. This is because guitar effects and modular synths have a similar structure. For example, a tremolo effect is nothing more than a VCA (voltage-controlled amplifier) controlled by an LFO (low-frequency oscillator). A delay effect is a circuit that delays the input signal and returns a portion of it to the input to generate a repeat sound.The delay time is slightly modulated using an LFO to add a pleasant fluctuation, and then a filter added to the feedback loop is used to create a repeat sound. By reproducing the warmth of the sound, you can create a vintage tape delay emulation in no time.

ZOIA already has a large number of completed effect modules, but if you wish, you can freely design and assemble your own effect module.

Rather than thinking of ZOIA as just a pedal, it's probably more accurate to think of it as a "platform". With ZOIA, you can build effects, synthesizers, music tools, and instruments in your own unique style.

You can load and save patches from SD card to ZOIA and from ZOIA to SD card. Additionally, the firmware is continually improved to add new modules, features, and fix bugs. You can easily update your ZOIA by downloading the latest firmware from empresseffects.com using the included SD card.

■ OLED display screen for intuitive editing
Equipped with high resolution OLED display screen. Displays all ZOIA module and parameter information.

■ Dedicated MIDI jack
A 1/8-inch MIDI input/output jack allows connection to a variety of external devices. You can control ZOIA with a MIDI keyboard or use it as the brain of your entire setup. A 1/8 inch to MIDI dongle is included.
