The first release in the new STAR TREK™ - Vehicles series from the New Zealand Mint is dedicated to the space station Deep Space 9™, originally known as Terok Nor. Struck from one ounce of 99.9% silver in proof quality, the motive in color depicts the space station floating in space, as well as the inscriptions "DEEP SPACE 9" and "WORM HOLE OBSERVATION PLATFORM". The reverse features the Public Seal of Niue, the year of issue "2024" and the denomination "TWO DOLLARS".
Deep Space 9 is an important space station in the Star Trek universe playing a central role in the "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" series. The station is located in orbit around the planet Bajor and serves as a hub for trade, diplomacy and strategic defense in the Alpha Quadrant.
