GLEN WESTON

SIDE A:    TEMA DE AMOR DE ROMEO Y JULIETA

(What Is A Youth [Love Theme From Romeo & Juliet])

SIDE B:    ESCENA DE DESPEDIDA DE AMOR

                  (Farewell Love Scene)

MEGARARE and HARD-TO-FIND original Capitol Records very first High Fidelity Mono press released by Capitol Records, made and distributed in Chile in 1969 by Industrias Eléctricas Y Musicales Odeon S.A. (Odeon Records Chile), licensed from Capitol Records Inc., USA, catalog number 2502, with hand etched matrix numbers X-70284. 2 in Side A and X-70289. in Side B, with traditional yellow/black Capitol Records labels of the period, with “Capitol” logo at top and 4-prong push-out center. Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!

“What Is A Youth (Love Theme From Romeo And Juliet)”, the main theme of the successful film “Romeo & Juliet” (premiered and released in the UK in March 1968 and released in USA in October 1968), directed by Franco Zeffirelli, was originally released in USA in May 1969 and the same year we could see this single released here in Chile. Song titles are written in Spanish, translated to English, the Side A and in Spanish only the Side B, with full credits for Nino Rota as songwriters and additional information about the film where the songs were taken from, with information about licenses and play time of each song. If you know this single, then you can notice that English title in Chile was shortened as “What Is A Youth” only, but in the original US single it’s “What Is A Youth (Love Theme From Romeo And Juliet)”, of course credited to Glen Weston as singer. The Side B in Chile not only doesn’t have the English title, the credits are also omitted, in original US single the credits are: “Juliet: Olivia Hussey, Romeo: Leonard Whiting, Nurse: Pat Heywood”. In Side A the additional info says in Spanish “from the Soundtrack of the homonymous film” and in Side B “from the Soundtrack ‘Romeo & Juliet’”. So, here you have the chance to get and own this MEGARARE CHILEAN PRESS of this so classic song from the film “Romeo & Juliet”, in the original version by Glen Weston, with Spanish-written song titles and credits omitted in Side B, a record almost never seen and maybe auctioned here in eBay by the very first time!!! WOW!!! A MUST TO HAVE for all fans, lovers and collectors of Glen Weston, Nino Rota and “Romeo & Juliet”!!!

This record doesn’t have a cover. The record is in EX or even EX+ condition both sides, glossy and clean, with only some soft scuffs and very light hairlines, hard to see at first sight, which don’t affect play at all. Labels on both sides are in great VG+ or EX- condition the Side A, clean and clear, with some spindle hole and general wear in the center, with faint blemishes and the name of a past owner written 2 times, and in EX- or EX condition the Side B, with some spindle hole wear, faint blemishes and the name of the same past owner in the center. The sound is in strong VG or even VG+ condition the Side A, loud, clear and clean, virtually no background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), with constant soft crackles and light clicks, more evident in the last seconds of the song, and in VG- or VG condition the Side B, almost same condition as Side A but with the crackles and clicks more evident and some occasional pops here and there, which don’t cause major distraction from the loud and clear sound this record keeps from the beginning to the end. Overall, this is a great record in this MEGARARE CHILEAN PRESS, with Spanish-written song titles and credits omitted in Side B, maybe not for strict Minty minds and audiophiles, but with still a nice glossy look, clear and clean labels and a very decent and respectable sound quality after about 55 years, which shouldn’t disappoint anyone and should satisfy any serious collector who knows the real level of rarity of this Chilean issue!!! Yes, Sirs, what a FIND!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the labels and cover in detail. WOW!!!

_____________________________________________

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK

We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
