This listing is for a pre-owned HO NSW NBTY 38' refrigerator/box van, as produced by SDS Models. 30 of the prototype wagons were built as refrigerator vans between 1973 and 1974. They were the last of the ice cooled vans made for NSWR. Their use diminished as mechanically cooled systems became available, and in the mid 1980s, most were converted and recoded for use in general parcels traffic. The conversion involved sealing the ice hatches, and changing the bogies in most cases. This van represents one of those. The model is up to the usual high level of detail as produced by SDS. It features full underfloor detail and brake rigging, separate wire ladder and handrails, lamp irons, coupler lift bars, and the roof hatches have been sealed as per the prototype after conversion. It has been professionally weathered. Although most of the wagons were fitted with bogie exchange types after conversion, this wagon still retains the original 2CM bogies, with metal wheelsets for smooth operation. It has Kadee fine scale couplers. See images.
