Triumph Trident T160 Gearbox/camplate detent plunger Original pt. no. 57-4226
This is a ball bearing tipped 5-speed gearbox camplate detent plunger. The ball bearing sits in an accurately machined socket which allows it to rotate while the cam plate is rotating when changing gear. This is designed to reduce and minimise the friction between it and the camplate.
The idea is to make gear changing a little bit smoother as well as making neutral potentially easier to find - especially on the later LH change engines.
I have one of these
fitted to my T140, T150, TR65 and R3. It is a direct replacement for the
standard 5-speed plunger and is fitted by undoing the plunger housing, swapping
the plunger and screwing the housing complete back in. Simples! It
works with both the early (round) and later (cut-back) camplates. I know
because I have both types in my bikes!
Please note that a
variety of different plunger housings can be fitted and it is therefore
important to check - see housing pictures. This item is 51.5mm long and is suitable for the
plunger housings illustrated. However, if you find on inspection that you
need an alternative length (I also have 40mm and 43.5mm) then I am happy to
swap it for you.
On installation, I have found that by reducing the plunger spring length
by up to 10mm (see picture) further improvements to the feel of the gearbox
operation can be had. With the reduced friction of the ball roller, the
plunger can quite easily locate into the detent position. It is also the
case that neutral is potentially easier to find with this set-up too.
If you have ANY questions then please just ask. I always leave
feedback when I know the package has arrived safely. I am happy to
combine postage for multiple items.
N.B. UK postage is 1st Class signed for.
This auction is for the ball tipped plunger ONLY.
