PETER DELIS

“PETER DELIS EN LA ONDA SALSERA”

MEGARARE and Hard-To-Find original Virrey Records very first Stereo press released in Chile in 1978 by Virrey Records, edited and distributed by PHILIPS CHILENA S.A. (Philips Records), with orange/black Virrey Records labels, catalog number 140 169, with hand etched matrix numbers 140 169-A MSM-CD in Side 1 and 140 169-A MSM-CD in Side 2. It’s interesting to notice that in the deadwax of both sides it’s written the date of pressing, “13-1-78” (January 13th of 1978). WOW!!! Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!

“Onda Salsera” was originally released in 1977 and only few months after, in January 1978, we could see this interesting salsa album released here!!! And like usual in Chile in that period, this release has a very thin flipcover made of 2 single pieces of thing cardboard with the front cover pasted on the flips of back cover. Front and back cover keep strictly the original artwork, with the only difference that in Chile back cover is only black and white. The tracklist and all the information is written only in Spanish in both back cover and labels. Yes, another rare record, this time an excellent selection of Latin dance rhythms salsa and cumbia, to hear and dance and with UNIQUE COVER and labels!!!

The cover is in VG- or VG condition, closer to VG-, both the front and back covers, with severe wear in all edges and more evident in corners with tape at the spine to repair a seam split, but top and bottom edges are still solid, notorious ring marks, some little rips, age browning and light blemishes and damage at top left corner in front cover, at back cover with 2 stamps informing the record was property of a radio, which clearly explains the wear of the cover. Some past owner had the good idea to use a plastic bag to protect the cover and it has worked very well. The record is in VG+ or EX- condition both sides, glossy and clean, with some light hairlines and scuffs and minimal light scratches, hard to see, which of course don’t affect the sound. Labels on both sides are in NM- or NM condition, absolutely clean and clear, with minimal spindle hole but with a big black paper pasted in Side 2 with the catalog number of the radio station, so I will grade Side 2 with a VG condition. The sound is far the best part, it’s in superb NM or NM+ condition the Side 1, loud, clear and clean, no background noise at all (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), maybe some minimal light crackles here and there which you won’t listen them if you are not looking for them, and in NM- or NM condition the Side 2, loud, clear and clean, with minimal occasional crackles a little more evident than in Side 1, which of course don’t really affect the sound this record keeps. Overall a great record with not the best look of the cover but still with an amazing sound quality after about 46 years, no skips, no sticks, no jumps, no pops, no clicks, stunning audio quality. If you like Mint copies, this record could not to be for you, mostly for the wear in cover, but if you really like and collect salsa and cumbia records you already know this record isn’t seen so often and here you have the chance to get and own a real rarity with still a superb audio quality after about 44 years to hear, dance and enjoy from the beginning to the end, which shouldn’t disappoint anyone who knows the real level of rarity of this Chilean issue!!! And keep in mind the UNIQUE COVER!!! Yes Sirs, what a FIND!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the cover and labels in detail.

Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a so good copy of this record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…

Thanks for watching and bidding, good luck and best regards from Chile

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK

We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
