A large vintage ARKAS phosphor bronze magnetic liquid marine compass. It was manufactured by ARKAS of Copenhagen in the mid 20th century and has a serial number of 0489. ARKAS was a Danish company that produced a variety of navigation equipment, including compasses, for marine use.
This compass is a truly impressive piece, with a weight of 62 lbs and a height of 15 inches. This compass will be shipped with the compass fluid still inside.
It is in excellent condition and working. (Of course, it will need professional adjustments and installation with a binnacle to make it functional at sea). Due to its enormous weight, the item will be packed in three separate boxes for easier handling. The light bulb has not been tested & the attached electrical wiring needs to be replaced. The compass card appears to have a small inclination balance weight loose. The bronze has been polished and the instrument is clean, ready for display.
