The 1876 Cape Cod Collection is reminscent of early American pressed glass called "Sandwich Glass." It featured lacy, intricate designs, fine background stippling and exquisite brilliance which reflected the superb craftsmanship of its makers. This collection from Avon was inspired by the classic Roman Rosette pattern. The collection name commemorates both the spirit of the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial, the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and Cape Cod, the area where Sandwich Glass originated.
