TESTED to my capabilities, and everything is WORKING 100%. 

I don't have the other components to recreate the true Quadraphonic experience, but I tested inputs via RCA and sound output from the "Back Speakers" (= BEAUTIFUL, loud & clean).

All knobs (Master Volume, Treble, Bass, System select) work smoothly & crisply throughout their full envelope ranges.

Sony invites you to a new era of listening pleasure via our SQA-100 Decoder/Amplifier. It provides Stereo Quadraphonic sound reproduction from SG, other type matrices and discrete four-channel programs with any stereo equipment.

The original ambience of concert-hall music comes from the reflected sound that has hit the walls, and ceiling and bounced back to the listener. With this ambience the music is rich and brilliant with profound spatial feeling. Two-channel stereo gives us this sense of presence to some extent, but it is not sufficient.

By reproducing sound over four widely separated speakers, four-channel stereo not only provides the direct sound, but also recreates the ambience pattern as it actually exists in a concert hall.

Further more, four-channel stereo also gives composers and recording directors a tool to create new musical effect by enveloping the listener with 3600 sound.

Through the study of four-channel psychoacoustics, CBS laboratories developed the "SQ" coded matrix system, and Sony has developed the hardware which can get the utmost from the SQ system.

The SQA-100's special matrix circuit enhances channel separation to localize the musicians or instruments where they belong. So you will hear music indistinguishable from the original sound and feel that you are actually in the concert hall.
