Paul César HELLEU (1859-1927)

Paul César HELLEU inspires his great friend Marcel Proust, the character of the painter Elstir in In Search of Lost Time.
Friend of Claude Monet and Edgar Degas, he rubbed shoulders with and painted the High Society of his time, but also, as a great lover of the sea and boats, and marines.
The “Helleu style”, which characterizes elegance or refinement and feminine grace, achieved immense success in Paris as well as in London and New York. Helleu was an innovator who attracted the admiration and curiosity of his contemporaries.
