Up for bid is this fabulous carved coconut and stand that dates from the 19th century that was probably carved by a sailor during a long sea voyage to some exotic island.  The coconut features carvings of an eagle over a banner with olive branch, a heart, a horseshoe for good luck and a horse's head and leaves.  The entire edges of the piece are decorated with hash lines and dots.  The cover is held in place by a piece of hemp string that was added later to the carving and is held onto the lid with a square bot and putty and runs through holes already present on the coconut.  We added a pottery stand as shown in the pictures to hold it upright and display it well.  Beautiful color and carvings.  Insurance is required.  Thanks for looking.
