Frog 1/72 Scale Vought F4U-1D Corsair Mk.IV Model Kit 1972 First Release

Introduction:

You will be bidding on a 1/72 scale model kit of the Vought F4U Corsair WW2 naval fighter. This model kit was produced by Frog and is an example of a first release from 1972. The Corsair was a highly capable carrier based fighter designed by Vought and built by Vought and Goodyear during World War 2. The distinctive gull wing designed fighter was one of the finest carrier based aircraft to serve during the conflict, matching or outclassing all contemporary Japanese designs it would meet in combat. The Corsair was used extensively by the US Navy, Marines and their allies in the Pacific Theatre in WW2 and the Korean War with great success. This kit represents an F4U-1D with the clear vision frameless canopy.

This Model Kit:

This model kit is complete and unstarted, still sealed in the original bag with header attached from 1972, though one of the staples has given up. All of the parts are on the sprues or loose within, the decals look like they are in good condition for their age. The instructions are printed on the reverse of the paper header. The packaging looks a little shabby but isn’t too bad.

Kit Features and Details:

This kit is moulded in grey plastic. Details include very fine raised panel lines and surface details throughout all appropriate external areas, as well as a very nicely rendered outer panel fabric effect on some parts of the wing. Cockpit details are a bit basic but include a floor tub with a seat as well as a pilot figure and a two piece canopy. Other details include radiator interior detailing, robust undercarriage that can be built raised or lowered, a separate arrestor hook, engine cylinder details and a number of other smaller parts and details to complete the build. Also provided is a small plastic display stand to mount the finished model on if desired. Construction looks quite simple and it should produce a great little kit of this legendary WW2 navy fighter with minimum fuss.
