For your consideration is a delightfully eye-catching original oil on canvas by British landscape painter Bartholomew Smith (1814-1897), also known as B. Smith of Thirsk. Featuring a marvellous gradation of colours from red to cyan created by the sunset, the work depicts an evening view of Loch Achray, one of the smallest freshwater lochs in the Stirling district of Scotland.
The level of detailing is superb, as you may see from the pictures. The work is handsomely housed in its original gilt frame from the same period. Like other works by Smith, the signature is found verso, together with the title and the dating of the work.
The work is in a remarkably pristine, original antique condition, free of restoration. The canvas remains unlined and displays an excellent level of clarity, saturation and brightness. Light craquelure runs throughout, along with light stretcher marks. The frame is also in an excellent antique condition, with minimal losses to the edges and natural signs of age. The piece is ready to hang.
