This is the VERY RARE ED mkIII 2.49cc SIDEPORT engine.  

Bearing a strong resemblance to the mkII 2cc Competition Special This is in fact a mkIII 2.49cc.

 Unlike the regular mkIII 2.49cc which was FRV this factory variant was a sideport and only available from the ED factory by special order. It was never advertised. It could be ordered as either a diesel or a glow.

Very few were made and no official information or documentation about it survives.

Possibly the rarest ED engine.

• ·      No serial no. ‘Tested’ stamped on edge of one engine mount. Circa 1949 or 1950 at a guess.
• ·      Very good condition showing only minor use and no abuse
• ·      It has very good compression and turns over freely
• ·      Some age related metal discolouration
• ·      Complete and original
• ·      Mounting holes do not appear to have been enlarged but very hard to tell – refer images
• ·      I have not tested the glow plug
• ·      I have not run this engine
• ·      Reproduction box – box is for the FRV version –no specific box for the sideport is known
• ·      A very rare and classic ED in very good condition for an engine 74 years old.

At $300 plus post this is good value for such a rare engine.

 I have not run this engine nor have I tested the glow plug.

The engine will be posted in a new Australia Post parcel  box for $25, which includes FULL INSURANCE and SIGNATURE ON DELIVERY, to any part of Australia. Insurance and signature are mandatory and not negotiable.
