Description

Parker introduced the Slimfold in 1962. Like the rest of the British Duofold collection of the 1960's it came in 4 colors - Red, Green, Blue, and Black, with Green being the hardest to find. The trim is gold-plated and is in excellent condition. The cap band is narrow, but it has the same chevron pattern that was used on the Vacumatics. I don't see any brassing at all. On this model, Parker also dropped the ball clip end for an arrow shaped design.

The pen is an Aerometric filler only (so no ink cartridges, but any color of bottled ink you wish), which still works fine after all these years. The sac is made of a material Parker called 'Pli-glass'. Parker stated that this material would last at least 30 years. I don't think I've ever found a bad one. So, a rather conservative estimate by Parker! The sac is protected by what Parker refers to as a 'hoop tube'. I ran water through the sac, and then ultrasonically cleaned all of the components. The Pli-glass sac functions just fine.

I don't see any bad scratches, nicks, gouges or bite marks anywhere on the cap or barrel. Just the usual normal fine micro marks and blemishes from daily use. The barrel imprint is worn but easily readable: 'PARKER SLIMFOLD 6 . . . MADE IN ENGLAND'. The '6' is the date code, so 4th quarter of 1966.

As mentioned earlier, the color of this pen is Red. The Slimfold was introduced in 1962, and in 1968, Parker redesigned the cap and clip more in line to what was used on the Parker 45. The date code on the barrel was only used on the original design, so this one is 1966. It was redesigned again in 1971, now a cartridge filler, and the model was discontinued in 1975. It was only manufactured at Parker's plants in England and Denmark. The Danish Slimfolds have a Christian Olsen anchor imprinted on the barrel. Olsen was under contract to manufacture pens for Parker, although they also had their own brand - Penol.

The thing I like most about this pen is the 14K Solid Gold #5 nib. The imprint on the nib is 'PARKER 14K ENGLAND 5'. The '5' means it is a Slimfold. They are very good writetrs.  Tine alignment looks perfect. I dipped the pen to create the writing sample and it lays down about an 'EF/F' line.

This is a very nice example of a Parker UK Duofold Slimfold. This is certainly a very collectible pen. This would make a great daily writer, or a nice collector's pen. It is a very cool piece of Parker's history.
