A VERY RARE CLASSIC F1 MODEL COLLECTIBLE

"CMR"1/18 Mercedes-Benz W196R Streamliner

1954/55 World Champions - Plain-body Edition

The Mercedes-Benz W196/196R was a Formula One Racing Car produced by Mercedes-Benz for the 1954 and 1955 F1 seasons, in the hands of Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss it won 9 of 12 races entered and captured the only two World Championships in which it competed until late.

This silver masterpiece, the original streamlined body was both expedient and visually appealing, which caused a sensation and served the team well at fast circuits such as Reims where it was first launched in 1954 and won with the aerodynamic closed-wheel aluminium body - the “Streamliner” was later used only three more times: at the '54 Britiah GP, the ’54 & ’55 Italian GPs. In total the "Streamliner" won 3 of the 4 races entered (except the ’54  British GP), all with Fangio at the wheel. These three Grands Prix have remained the only races won by a closed-wheel car in Formula One history to date.

Offering for sale is an extremely rare collectible for all F1 and Mercedes-Benz Enthusiasts – This "CMR" model has long gone out of production (NOT "CMC"), it has been in storage since bought 2nd-hand from a Private Collector in pristine conditions and has always been well preserved in the box even though the Foam Packaging has some damages at both ends (as illustrated). The W196R is a well sought-after piece of memorabilia, particularly if you want a Plain-body version.
