5th (Royal Irish) Lancers Other Ranks Full Dress Lance Cap

A good attributed example c.1901-14, black leather skull with trencher top, sewn red side panels with yellow cloth waist band, similar red rosette plume, the frontal plate with Battle Honours to ‘South Africa 1899-1902’, falling black plume with holder, leather backed chin chain, inner sweat band, incorrect button (for 16th Lancers on rosette.)

Stamped 4347 5L in large letters inside the peak.

Medal Index Cards gives: 4347 Pte. George Evans, (born 1 June 1894, Shropshire, England) entitled to a 1914 Star & Bar Trio, who died on 28th August 1915 of Tuberculosis and Meningitis at Naas and is buried at Kildare Cathedral Cemetery.
