Up for auction  is this PAIR  ( two items) of unused mica smoke consumers (smoke tops) to go on the top of kerosene oil lamp chimneys. These appear in oil lamp catalogues  pretty much unchanged from the 1870s until 1939. The last picture is from the 1933 Veritas catalogue.

These two are approx 3 inches diameter and 4 inches overall height. They can be adjusted by carefully bending the tin to fit most chimneys. Shown adjusted to fit duplex and similar chimneys.

Found still in their original plain card 'bulk' boxes which despite becoming very tatty and dirty on the outside had preserved their contents in as-new condition. The boxes were dumped along with all the dirt and mouse nests, they'd done their job !
