1988 One of a Kind Russian MATRYOSHKA Vintage NESTING DOLLS 10pc Hand-Painted RELIGIOUS Icons SIGNED

In this unique set of 10 Christian-themed Russian Matryoshkas, the largest doll is only 7 inches tall, and the smallest is an incredible 5/16 of an inch!  Intricately hand-painted all around, each wooden doll's front depicts a maiden holding a Russian Orthodox icon (Jesus, Mary and Child, or one of the saints), and the back features decorative crosses.  The artist's signature on the bottom of the first doll reads "Souvorkov", and the date of manufacture is 1988 - back when Russia was still known as the USSR!

The one-of-a-kind set has been proudly displayed in my own home since its creation and does show signs of wear, including paint loss and chipped/cracked wood.  Very little of this is found on the facing side, however.  I believe the imperfections only add to the vintage charm of the set and in no way detract from the its beauty or cultural significance.  Please examine the pictures carefully and feel free to ask questions.  Note:  The pictures were taken at night with a flash; the real colors are dimmer than they look.  All the dolls close tightly, despite appearances.

The first Matryoshkas were created at the end of the 19th century and have since become one of Russia's most recognizable symbols, and the Russian Orthodox painting style is literally iconic!  This stunning set would be a great addition to any collection of folk art or religious artifacts.
