Wonderful estate find, a collection of portraits of the young John T. DuBois, who left home for war on August 29, 1861.  He was "In the battle of Pittsburg Landing (Shiloh ) April 6 and 7th 1862.  He fell sick on the battlefield and died on April 24, 1862 at age 17."

Ambrotype - 3 x 3.5 inches, nice portrait with his revolver gun, coat and kepi hat.  Case is split and has two hand-written notes, on taped on the inside and the second was a card behind the photo, a calling card of Walter S. Du Bois from Wichita Kansas.

Tintype in Gutta Percha Case - 3 x 3.5 inches.  Case is cracked and is partially missing on front and bottoms of both sides as shown.  Inside has a note that he died of Typhoid Fever and also partial note about Evansville Indiana (but hard read).

CDV of the same ambrotype photo, "Uncle John DuBois died with fever while in service of his country the civil war."

Bible,  "Bible carried during civil war by John Treon DuBois 1845 - 1862 died on way home from civil war.  Brother of Mary E Cannon."  Bible measures 3 x 4.25 x 1.75, Leather cover is separated and very worn, has tape and name of Mary Dubois.  Most all pages appear to be together but has stains.  I imagine it was very important to this young man when he was in service and probably provided a lot of comfort.

Please review all photos and bible for full condition, as all have wears and imperfections as shown.

We've been on eBay since 1997, from the days of Pez.  There's nothing more disappointing for a buyer who plans to wait to bid on an item, then suddenly poof, it's ended and gone.  We believe in the spirit of a true auction and we never end our auctions early.  Thank you for your understanding and enjoy!
