No design is too ambitious when it comes to creating your dream home, but discovering the hard realities that complicate your plans can often be too much to bear. From one family's dream home on a unique, inner city site with no street frontage to a dynamic, environmentally sustainable "sand dune" house and a colonial-style sheep station on a 1000 acre property built from wool-derived materials, Grand Designs Australia follows not only the growth of these special homes, but the personal journeys of those building them.

Hosted by leading Australian architect, Peter Maddison, Series Five explores the motivations, memories and connections behind some of the most exciting and cutting edge new home builds ever seen.

In one of our most gruelling projects ever, there is the Queensland house made entirely out of shipping containers - with the singular aim of making the house water-tight after the family's previous house was devastated in the 2011 Queensland floods. The end result is jaw dropping - a design feat that belies the short six month time line.

Other fascinating stories include the Port Melbourne house where the exterior is made from 30 black, two-metre high water tanks; and the Mornington Peninsula modernist house that started as a six month project and blew out to four years - becoming the slowest build in Grand Designs Australia history. Once again, Grand Designs Australia brings the characters, the houses and the stories together for an insightful season of inspiration and appreciation.

Hosted by leading Australian architect, Peter Maddison, Series Six is one of the most diverse yet in terms of building styles, personalities and locations. From the initial floor plans to the finished product, it's an eclectic mix of architectural wizardry borne from outstanding ideas and inspirational people striving to create an environment that truly represents them. Featuring unique builds in contrasting locations such as a home in Kuitpo South Australia which has been built in the shape of a leaf, a four-storey eco-friendly house in inner city Melbourne which measures just 5 x 4 metres and a derelict vintage electricity substation in Launceston which is transformed into a modern cutting-edge home. On the north coast of Tasmania, follow a first-time designer and Conservationist who builds a wrap around tree house around a 30-metre eucalyptus. Meanwhile in Melbourne's laneways a sustainable architect has big plans to turn a crumbling red-brick warehouse into a four-bedroom home. Once again, Grand Designs Australia brings the characters, the houses and the stories together in an insightful series of inspiration.

In this series, a young couple sets out to build a tent-like abode in a rainforest; an owner-architect is creating a curved house in the image of his own foot; a chef quits the city to transform an old village windmill; an inventor wants to build an American style ranch house on an undeveloped island; and an ambitious couple give themselves just two weeks to build their perfect home.
