FRANKIE LYMON

“AT THE LONDON PALLADIUM”

ULTRA MEGARARE and Hard-To-Find original Philips Records very first High Fidelity Minigroove MONO press released, made and distributed in Chile in 1960 by Discos Philips (Philips Records), with catalog number P 630 562 L with machine etched matrix numbers 630-562-A- R 25013 A1 in Side A and 630-562-B- R 25013 B1 in Side B, with megarare black/silver Philips Records labels. It’s interesting to see that in back covers the sides are identified as “Lado 1” (Side 1) and “Lado 2” (Side 2), but in labels they are only “A” and “B”. And it’s interesting to notice that in the deadwax of both sides it’s handwritten the exact date of pressing, “7-20-60” (20th of July of 1960)!!! WOW!!! Yes Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!

“Frankie Lymon At The London Palladium” was originally released in 1957 and we had to wait until 1960 to see this historical and brilliant early rock and roll album released here in Chile and, like so many times in that period, we got it with an UNIQUE COVER made of two single sheets of a very thin cardboard with back cover pasted on the flips of front cover. Front cover keeps strictly the original artwork, with album title and song titles written only in English and the evident difference that in Chilean issue all lettering is black and the tracklist is vertically listed at the top left corner. The back cover is totally different, with album title written in English only, tracklist written in English, translated to Spanish, with full credits, a brief review about Frankie Lymon and the album written in Spanish only, and some other recommended Philips records by Ronnie Hawkins, Jimmy Bowen or Sacha Distel among others. In labels album title is written in Spanish only, “Frankie Lymon En El Palladium De Londres”, and tracklist are written in English, translated to Spanish, with full credits for songwriters. It’s very interesting to notice that in labels some names are misspelled. In the credits of “So Goes My Love”, the credit for “Di Resta”, correctly written in back cover, it’s misspelled  DiResta” in label. In the song “Somebody loves me” the credit for “DeSylva”, correctly written in label, it’s misspelled “De Sylva” in back cover. The credit for “My Baby Just Cares For Me” correctly written “Kahn” (Gus Kahn) is misspelled “CAHN” in back cover and label. But the most interesting fact to see it’s the misspelled song titles in labels!!! Yes Sirs, the song “You Were Only Fooling”, correctly written in back cover, it’s misspelled “You WHERE Only Fooling” in label, and the song “Goody Goody”, correctly written in back cover too, it’s misspelled “GOODYE Goody” in label!! WOW!!! Incredible FIND and WHAT A SUPERB CONDITION!!!

The cover was already described and it’s in VG+ or EX- condition, no missing parts, no writings, no blemishes, no creases, only light ring marks, more evident in back cover, general wear in the edges with a little rip in the mouth edge, and no seam splits (!), which’s a real miracle after almost 60 years (!!!), considering this kind of cover is really fragile. The record is in EX or EX+ condition both sides, glossy and clean, with only very light scuffs and some minimal hairlines, which don’t affect play, no scratches at all!!! Labels on both sides are in great NM or NM+ condition, absolutely clean and clear, with not even spindle hole wear. The sound is the best part, a nice surprise, it’s in stunning EX+ or NM- condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, with no background noise at all (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), only a light click in the first song of the album and very occasional minimal crackles here and there, a little more evident in silent parts, no pops, no ticks, no repetitions, no jumps, no distortions, but I’d recommend a professional vacuum cleaning, maybe sound quality could even get better!!! Overall, after about 64 years it’s the best copy you could find of this megarare album released in Chile, with an UNIQUE COVER and UNIQUE MISSPELLING song titles and credits!!! Yes Sirs, what a FIND!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the labels and cover in detail. WOW!!!

Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a so good copy of this record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…

Thanks for watching and bidding, good luck and best regards from Chile

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK

We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
