Frog 1/72 Scale Grumman TBM-1 Avenger Mk.II Torpedo Bomber Model Kit 1973 First Release

Introduction:

You will be bidding on a 1/72 scale model kit of the Grumman Avenger WW2 torpedo bomber. This kit was produced by Frog and is an example of a 1973 first release. The Grumman TBF (or TBM for aircraft manufactured by General Motors) Avenger was developed to replace the obsolete Douglas Devastator torpedo bomber in US Service. The type had a tough combat debut in 1942 at the Battle of Midway but went on to become the most effective and widely used torpedo bomber of the conflict, serving with US and allied air arms, and continuing in service with many in various roles into the 1960s. The Avenger was also the heaviest single engined aircraft design to see service during the Second World War.

This Model Kit:

This model kit is complete and unstarted except a few parts have been painted on the sprue in interior green where appropriate. All of the parts are still on the sprues or loose in the box. Instructions and decals are in good condition, the box is in good shape and just has some typical minor squashing and shelf wear here and there.

Kit Features and Details:

This kit is moulded in grey plastic. Features include fine raised panel lines and surface details throughout all appropriate external surfaces. Cockpit details are a bit basic by modern kit standards but still include a floor and rear armour bulkhead as well as a seat, control stick and pilot figure in the front as well as a rear gun turret which can traverse and rotate after construction. Other features include undercarriage that can be built raised or lowered, some nice engine cylinder details, finely produced smaller details such pitot probes and horn balances and it is also provided with a stand on which to display the finished model. Looks like it should build into a nice model of one of the most important allied WW2 torpedo bombers.
