Here we have an Antique W. BUTCHER, Sheffield, Heavy Duty Timber Framing, Shipwright, Carpenter's 1" Chisel.  In the early nineteenth century, William and Samuel Butcher formed one of the most successful partnerships in Sheffield, England.  The elder brother, William, apparently took the leadStarting in 1825 William was listed as a merchant in edge tools, skates, saws, files, hoes, trowels, joiner tools along with west Indian & Brazilian plantation tools.  Plane irons and chisels were among his specialties.  They are often marked ‘W. BUTCHER. WARRANTED CAST STEEL’. (Arrow and Maltese Cross logo).  This chisel is stamped with the firm's name and logo. This chisel is in Good 'used tool' condition (see pics).  It has a thick tapered bit has have some dings from use. The upper section of the socket has and early short crack in the steel. The chisel and handle connection is rock solid !  It has an EXCELLENT turned replacement handle with a thick metal impact ring.  NO cracks in the handle.  The chisel is approx.14-3/4” long.  Please review pics to confirm the condition !
