Amur or Tatar Maple are short statured landscape trees that are known for their beautiful flaming red foliage in the fall. Makes a beautiful hedgerow or standalone specimen.

These trees are incredibly vigorous and hardy. Seeds started indoors in January and transplanted outside in June reached 6ft (~2m) by October (with appropriate attention). The autumn leaf colours are a beautiful copper/burgundy shade. Excellent for hedging, privacy screening, can be planted under power lines as compact trees. Easy to germinate and grow.

In my personal experience these seeds require a short 30-60 day cold stratification in a moist soil medium at 4 degrees Celsius, after which they can be removed to room temperature and planted at 20-24C to germinate. The generally advised stratification time is 90 days minimum. If allowed to remain at 4C they will germinate on their own within 6 months of being placed in moist medium at 4c and can then be planted. Seeds may take up to ONE year to germinate. Monitoring seeds during stratification is a must. Seeds will NOT germinate without this process. These seeds may look "shriveled" and "old", unlike Sugar Maple seeds the tatar maple seeds are flat and a little wrinkly! Every seed is hand checked before packing. Germination rate 70% for 2022.

Please note this listing is for the remainder of 2021 crop, the 2022 crop was a total loss due to hurricane Fiona.
