Antique iron bell clapper found in a house in Rural Retreat, Virginia. Former owner of the house enjoyed antique collecting. It weighs 2.2 lbs. One area looks like an "8" in the bulb of the clapper, but can't be confirmed.

The possibilities of its history: a church bell clapper, or a steam engine train clapper, or maybe a liberty bell clapper. An iron foundry man confirmed it was indeed made as a bell clapper. He added this detail:
"Bells were sold to trains, ships, churches, school houses, parks, fire departments, etc.  No practical way to trace these parts to their original purchaser."

If you need a clapper for your bell, it appears to have many years of use left in its soul.
