This is a fantastic folk art carving however you look at it. It appears to be a bird in flight, perhaps a crude eagle? Or if viewed with the head down it appears to be a game bird? Either way it has great age and patina. Unfortunately, the bird is missing one foot and there are a few tiny chips (see photos.) One wing was reattached in an early repair. Measures 11 inches. I don’t believe it is a Bellamy Eagle but it was acquired in the southern Maine seacoast area. I’m unsure if it was originally made in the USA or perhaps the German Black Forrest since they’re known for their wooden sculptures. You’re the expert.
