Very Rare = 'Andy Warhol' Exhibition Poster...

1st Edition Printed 1971 = Never Issued!

This is a very interesting poster indeed, one that was never actually released, (as it was obviously intended), for the 1971 Tate Gallery (London) exhibition. It was decided that due to the graphic nature of the poster's main image, (a photograph taken by Richard Avedon in 1969) it was deemed far too gruesome to display to the public!!! As a result of that decision the idea was abandoned and the 'Hillingdon Press' version was never printed/released for public display!!! But we have it!!!

The scars Andy Warhol is showing in the photo are the result of him having been operated on (to remove bullets) after he was shot on June 3rd 1968 by a woman called Valerie Solanas! If you don't know the story you can easily look it up online. She also fired the gun at his Marilyn art pieces, one of which was subsequently repaired (named 'Shot Sage Blue Marilyn') and then sold for $195 Million in 2022!

This is a 2nd edition print/poster, a later print of the original, (NOS = New Old Stock) so basically being sold as a new 2nd edition print.

It also has Andy Warhol's hand written signature printed on it. A super-cool iconic poster... with a fascinating story behind it!!!
