Vintage Kahaila (Hunter) Kachina Doll. This Kachina is presumed to be from the Rio Grande Pueblos, likely Laguna. He is sometimes called the Hunter Katsina. He dances in the regular Katsina dance with Alo Mana.
This Kachina is handmade of cottonwood root and handpainted. He is likely from the 1950s/1960s era and may have been made to be a gift from the Kachina dancers, hence the long piece of sinew attached to his neck for hanging There are small bird feathers and purple yarn "hair" atop his head, as well as two feathers at the sides, one of which has split. He also features leather armbands, yarn knee gauntlets, a felt bandolier, a yarn "evergreen" neck ruff, and a fabric bowguard. He is approximately 11 inches tall and 5 inches wide at the arms. Very good condition for his age. Maker unknown.
