Wow ... with this 1978 Garcia Masterpiece, I almost get the chills just thinking ! about it !!?! This Album is just " That-Huge ! " ... and if my personal opinion isn't enough ( totally understandable ) - well, how about one from Jerry Garcia himself, as he indeed publicly proclaimed that this release - " Cats Under The Stars " -- was the Jerry Garcia Solo Album, that he himself was ' most ' proud-of ! It is simply a Masterpiece, has a true ' sign of the times ' sound - though at the same time ... it is still & will always be Timeless ! And maybe most importantly ... the Jerry Garcia Band was now within a period, or Era - if I may ... that was arguably their exact " Prime ! ". 1976 to 1978 is certainly one of the J.G.B. Hot-Zones ! - and arguably to many Garcia Fans ... it is indeed the Very-Best ! Where exactly, and when exactly is the J.G.B. at their Best ? Well, I leave that up to your ear ... as we all indeed have our personal opinions. But as far as this staffed-up unit, both in the Studio, and of course ' Live ' - they were beyond-Grand at this point in time. This release originally delivered these amazing tracks to the Garcia faithful - in studio-pristine fashion >>> Rubin & Cherise - Love In The Afternoon - Cats Under The Stars - Rhapsody in Red - and Gomorrah. Wow ... I mean this is indeed a " Who's Who ? " of the Late-'70's & even the Early-'80's J.G.B. repertoire ! And the best part with this ' particular ' 2004 beautifully-remastered version ? There are Seven ( 7 ) addition tracks ! offered in the ' Bonus Material ' !! I mean that gets yet another ... Wow !!! And every-single one of them, being way note-worthy ... Magnificent Sanctuary Band - I'll Be With Thee - The Way You Do The Things You Do - Mighty High - Don't Let Go - Down Home - & Palm Sunday. Unbelievable inclusions - just thinking back to what " Cats ! " meant to nearly all Fans, way before the addition of this Monumental ! Bonus-Track segment. Just like the Boss once said himself ...
