Morning sun glints off the shiny surface of the steel "boards" used in construction of a termite-proof frame of a house in Kenner. Edward Berner flips through the blueprints of the house before beginning the construction of the front wall frame. The entire structure behind him is steel. Erick Russell slips a tool into his back pocket as he steadies the frame of the front wall with the other hand. Because the material is pre-cut and lighter than wood, construction takes fewer people and less time. Ammie Deese cuts a steel beam to size Tuesday during the construction of a residence in Kenner.
