this fabulous Pearl Choker in the ‘Snowflake’ motif was Designed by Victoria de Castellane under Karl Lagerfeld. 

This exceptional necklace  shows the unique savoir-faire of the brand and its collaboration with prominent designers such as Victoire de Castellane and Robert Goossens  of Maison Gripoix. This choker perfectly illustrates the quality of execution and the tidious details of the jewels made by the designer. The jewel is made of layers of gold-plated pendants and links hand strung with pearls.

Karl Largerfeld was appointed as head designer (1983) of Chanel and he sought consciously to evoke the style and quality of Chanel's iconic costume jewelry designs, while giving them a modern aesthetic. In 1984, Karl appointed Victoire de Castallane to head up jewellery design, and she produced most of the famous Chanel pieces that are so collectable and continue to inspire today. She was employed from 1984 until 1998, an amazingly creative period. De Castellane introduced a new dating system when she arrived, moving from a specific year to the idea of a Season. She began with Season 23, and ended with Season 29, which roughly correspond to the years 1984-1990. 

Karl Lagerfeld’s inaugural designs from the ‘80s and ‘90s have remained the most highly sought after pieces for vintage Chanel jewelry hunters. His radical riffs on the iconic motifs (like this snowflake motif) and classic designs of Chanel were unexpected and immediately coveted. Moreover, the value of vintage Chanel jewelry is enhanced by real 24k gold-plating in brass. In late 2008, Chanel pivoted from 24k gold plating to gold-toned hardware, subtly differentiating vintage and modern jewelry pieces.
