Here's a first double volume edition of Jules Verne's 'Les Sphinx des Glaces', or the Sphinx of the Ice Fields, published by Hetzel in1897, in the Globe Doree binding style. This was Verne's sequel to Poe's novel 'A Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym'. Verne was a huge fan of Poe and wrote this sequel which gives some resolution to a story that Poe left open ended. Heavily illustrated with 68 illustrations by Roux, of which 20 are larger (colorized) chromotypographs with 14 in color, 4 in blue, and 2 in sepia. Also includes a map. All edges gilt.

Condition is Very Good-, with some foxing throughout. Covers are nice with only some light edge wear. Spine a little faded. A few small scratches to polychrome.
