Fascinating and unique "Item 487001 ◊ 1898s Stereoview Photograph - Turn of the Century Plantation Life in Cuba" It measures approximately 7" x 3-1/2" (≈18 cm. X 9 cm.) This delightful 1899 Stereoview Photograph" is #9095, copyrighted by by B. L. Lingley in Meadville, PA and St. Louis, Mo. And it was distributed by Keystone View Company. The front of this stereoview show a clapboard dwelling, as well as a thatched hut, which might double as a chicken cook. The back has a detailed description, describing the scene. You should be able to read the enlarged writing. The description would be comical if it weren't so sad. "Poverty, illiteracy and immorality widely prevail (in this area.) It isn't as hot as "New York and sun strokes are unknown." "...the heat seldom reaches 104° F." "The poorer farmers live in thatched shanties very much resembling a Yankee cow-shed… (many) people live in one of these airy cabins in seeming happiness and content. This outstanding stereoview is in excellent condition. The individual photos have no surface wear in front or in back. The card edges show no wear. It is amazingly clean for it's age. Please see all photos above to confirm the contents and condition of this stereoview. Although the research into 3D viewers and photos started back in the first part of the 1800's, the real heyday of the "modern" stereoview started when stereo-cameras became readily available to professional and amateur photographers in the late 1800's. And their popularity continued to the middle of the 1900's. It is thanks to these photographers, that we can take a 3-D look into another time, such as with this "turn of the century" view. A very rare and wonderful,"1898s Stereoview Photograph - Plantation Life on a Tropical Island.," and a great addition to any collection!! -------------------------- Please see our other listings for a number of additional 19th and 20th century Photographs and Stereoviews which are also being offered for sale this week and in coming weeks by PENchantiques on eBay!!
