W
ow ... Holy Rock & Roll !!!!!  Fall in Dead Fans, and Fans of The Brothers ! - because if you don't own Both ! of these Monumental ! February 1970 Fillmore East Sets - then seriously ... that really needs to change fast !  This Grateful Dead Dick's Picks Volume Four ( 4 ) Fillmore East 2/13-14/70 ( 3-CD Set ) was released way-back in 1996 under the Grateful Dead Records label ( manufactured & distributed by GDM, Inc. ) - and the Allman Brothers Band Fillmore East 2/70 ( 1-CD Set ) was released the following year in 1997 under the PolyGram Records label ( manufactured & distributed by GDM, Inc. )  With both ! Sets being originally recorded by Owsley " Bear " Stanley - and released under the GDCD Record Label !  This is Massive ! Improvisational Live Rock & Roll ( delivered the way it should be ! ) inside Bill Graham's Fillmore East in New York City ! ... and with Both ! of these Amazing-Bands being at the height of the arguable " Prime " periods - or, at least of one of their finest stages.  Considering that both the Dead & The Allman's just had so-many " Primes ".  Simply Unbelievable ! Live Shows.  And too ... don't you just have to love the old school Ampex & Scotch Reel To Reel Tape Cover Art Packaging ?!  " Reel " Awesome !  So, here indeed is a little more info on each below for you to read up on . . .  Enjoy !!!!!

Grateful Dead : Dick's Picks 4 Volume Four : February 13-14, 1970 ( 2/13/1970 & 2/14/1970 ) - Fillmore East - New York, NY : 1996 (1970/1996) Grateful Dead Records / GDM, Inc. ( GDCD 4023 ) : Rare !!!

Grateful Dead ' Live ' from February 1970 at Bill Graham's Fillmore East ! in New York City !! ( 3-CD Set ) !!!!!

This Dick's Picks # 4 release from 2/13-14/1970 at the Fillmore East is a viable candidate for a " Most Important Performances in Rock 'n Roll History " Award.  And that my fellow Fans ... is totally-no-joke.  This event marks the Grateful Dead & The Allman Brothers duking it out in a friendly no-holds-barred live concert event at Bill Graham's Fillmore East in New York City.  Right during Rock n' Roll's Prime, and also the Primes ( arguably ) for each of these Historic Bands.  At this specific Time & Era, these guys are simply inventing & strongly pushing the boundaries on how Rock 'n Roll is supposed to be played properly, in the Improvisational Live Format !  These were immaculate performances by both bands on this very special Feb. '70 night.  The Dead deliver what many consider to be the  Quintessential !  " Dark Star " during this fine night, and the delivery all throughout their performance is heavy & hard.  For me personally, growing up as a kid - this was "" The !!! "" Dark Star ! that all others were measured by & up to.  Mind-blowing, and yet - so eloquent & beautiful too.  This nothing short of Legendary ! Show fits right in the " Workingman's Dead " era & time-period, so you have brilliant electric-deliveries of fresh new songs ( eventually true-classics ! ) that could really go both ways - either acoustic, or electric.  You are treated to both High Time & Dire Wolf in subtle electric fashion, but you are ( & will be ) electrified by the musical-pushes of the band in heavy tunes in the likes of Alligator, Not Fade Away ( true 70's style ! ) and last, but definitely not least :  Mason's Children > Caution > Feedback > Bid You Goodnight.  The stars all-aligned on this night for our beloved Grateful Dead - and the Dead Fans who were there !  Straight as an Arrow, and out to the Moon !!!  Dark Star !!!!!!!

Allman Brothers Band : Fillmore East : February 1970 : Bill Graham's Fillmore East - New York, NY : 1997 (1970/1997) PolyGram Records / GDM, Inc. ( GDCD 4063 ) : Rare !!!!!

Allman Bros. Band ' Live ' from February 1970 at Bill Graham's Fillmore East ! in New York City !! ( 1-CD Set ) !!!!!

Wow ... and as for this Allman Bros. release ?  It's hard to paint any sort of flowery-picture on this one my fellow Fans ... as this release is just flat-out Mean !!!  Liz Reed - Hoochie Coochie - Stateboro - Trouble No More - Outskirts of Town - Whipping Post - Mountain Jam !!!!!!!  And, this just isn't any Mt. Jam here - as we're talking 30:48 worth of Guitar Howling ! Rock & Roll.  This Dickie Betts & Duane Allman thing here at this stage is just so " There " ... as you could really argue that this Early-'70's period was the true ' Gateway ' to their Prime ! period as far as dualing the Axes goes.  Wow !?!!!  I mean if you are going to go ahead and release these Fillmore East 2/13,14/70 Dead Shows ( with, arguably " The ! " Dark Star of all Dark Stars ) - I mean why-not just go ahead & release it all !  I distinctly remember being so-incredibly-Grateful ! when I caught word that this Allman's release would quickly follow the Dead release ... with Both ! being of the " GDCD " nature !  An Ampex Cover for the Dead release ( naturally ... being of the " Dick's Picks " Series ) - and then too ... a Scotch Tape ! Cover for the Allman's release !!!  So-awesome for those who loves their Rock & Roll packaging just as much as I do.  My goodness, as the simply-fact is ... both the Grateful Dead & The Allman Brothers Band were Fierce ! in this so-special period - well knowing that they were beyond " on to something " live ... and, it was just purely in both Band's blood to Deliver !! the goods - and, especially on a stage as important as in Bill Graham's Fillmore East !!!  Rock & Roll !!!!!  Enjoy !!!!!!!
