Unusual piece. Designed possibly as a model or prototype butter-serving dish for the Hotel de l’Aigle Noir Fontainebleau, the Black Eagle Hotel.

The word “Echire” is embossed three times around the opening. The front of the base reads, “Hôtel de l’Aigle Noir Fontainebleau” around the curve.

The underside reads, “Modele depose par la laiterie cooperative d’Echire” which roughly translates to “Model registered by the Echire cooperative dairy”.

The center of the rectangle reads, “Porcelaine LaFarge Limoges France”.
