This fine African tribal club is either a Maasai Rungu of a Zulu Knobkerry. It is hand carved out of a dense hardwood (perhaps Stinkwood). It has a great form with a collar molding below the hhead and small round projection out of the head. The shaft has a "palm swell" to help the user have a firmer grip. It was given to me sometime in the 1980's by a older British colonial officer that appears to have served in Africa after many years of service in India. The club is 22.25 inches long. there are a couple of very small natural flaws in the wood that do not compromise its strength in any way. i think it dates to the 1930's (or earlier)
