Here is a rare chance to obtain a classic Quadrophonic (true 4-Channel)Excel ES70EX4 hi-fi cartridge, with its original Shibata stylus, all packaging, and a spare (aftermarket) stylus, all in VGC.
The EX4 enables true discrete Quadrophonic reproduction (I don’t have a Quad system, so haven’t had the benefits!) and the design produces a very high frequency response range, (cited as an incredible 10 Hz – 40,000 Hz!) with an excellent level of depth and detail, in Stereo or Quad.
If you are a Quadrophonic enthusiast, this is a very rare chanceto obtain a high-quality original true Quad cartridge for your set-up – and Iwill be jealous as hell, never having heard the Excel perform in actual Quadrophonic mode!
I bought this cartridge around a year ago as ‘New Old Stock’; it’s been used moderately by me, so still has lots of life (plus the spare ‘aftermarket’ stylus is included!). As I tend to service my Roksan and change the cartridge annually, I’m now replacing the Excel for either a Goldring MM or Audio-Technica MC cartridge; both are cartridges awaiting usage.
The Excel has the original box and spec sheet and will be sent, in original moulded transparent box and carton, along with the excellent little-used aftermarket spare stylus (also in its own original box). The ‘spare’ stylus is actually shown on the photos on my turntable, though I will fit the original Excel stylus to the cartridge when I box it up for dispatch.
It’s a fine, detailed performer – with a low-ish output for an MM of only 3.0 mV, so I used it on a Moving Coil (MC) phono-stage setting, with a 0.5 mV uplift applied on my Roksan VSC Phono Stage, to achieve the best results. I’ve used the Excel with a 2.0 Grams tracking force.
Most of the photos show the Excel fitted with the ‘spare’ aftermarket stylus to my Roksan tonearm, though I will refit the original Excel stylus to the cartridge when I box it up for dispatch. My Roksan turntable, of course, is definitely NOT included in the sale!
High-quality ‘aftermarket’ stylus replacements (like the one included) are readily available for around £40.
