Used for a few years to watch movies via DLNA but ran out of space. Haven't used it in the past 7 years so it was never attacked during the vulnerability period and subsequent attack June 2021.  WD doesn't support this anymore and advise not to connect it to the internet.  I did a full factory restore on March 4, 2024. Ran normally. Normal spin-up sounds. No abnormal clicking.  Comes with AC power adapter and 3 foot network cable. It is set for DHCP so you'll have to find the IP address from your router.  No password so you have to set one then immeidately make sure remote access is disabled in settings.

You can use the software on the WD site to find it on your network and use it.

Because of the internet vulnerability of this NAS you have to disable remote access.  You can still access it within your network like enabling DLNA and use it to stream movies and music in your network like I did. If you want remote access to it you'll have to use something like tailscale on another device on your network to create a VPN then access it that way.  Tailscale gives you the first 3 users and 100 devices for free.

Login to the drive web interface with a web browser, go to "settings",

Then go to "remote access" along the top row menu.

Then uncheck "enable" on the top line.
As long as "enable" is not checked, the other settings below - web access, mobile access, etc. - will be grayed out and not available to configure.
